Worldwide there are thought to be somewhere between 23,000 and 40,000 lions living in the wild. Most of these can be found in Africa, which is why safari holidays and Masai Mara excursions are so popular, as people try to see the great animals of our time before it is too late. Where should you start?
The Mara-Serengeti ecosystem is one of the best places to see lions in the wild. The ecosystem spans a large area across Kenya and Tanzania, taking in the Masai Mara nature reserve in Kenya and the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Within this area there are many rivers, grasslands, forests and more. From an incredible lodge on the Masai Mara you could experience one of the great wonders of the world in The Great Wildebeest Migration.
